Spanner on Roots Rock Rebel! May 2 podcast
| Rebel Time Blog |
From...Roots Rock Rebel (CKUT, 90.3 FM, Montreal: 10pm-12am, Wednesdays)
Welcome to this week’s podcast of Roots Rock Rebel!
Maybe you love Roots Rock Rebel for the weekly dose of ska, reggae, punk, and class war politics we bring you. Or maybe you stand for the establishment, and you’re not that into the show. But either way, this is radio that draws a line in the sand and then says DANCE! Which side are you on?
This week our special guests were Spanner, a ska-punk band from Bristol, England, who definitely know which side they’re on. We did an interview with Nick, the drummer, and Ben, who plays guitar and rants. They both ranted about everything from the global economic crisis, to anarchist politics, to ska music, to their new album “Crisis”. If you’re a fan of ska-punk bands who don’t sell-out their values, great politcally charged bands like Operation Ivy, Leftover Crack, or Against All Authority, then you’ll probably like Spanner. You can pick up Spanner’s music in North America through the good folks at Rebel Time Records.
We also heard some great new music from Kevin Batchelor’s Grand Concourse, Maddie Ruthless and the Forthrights, Bobby Sixkiller, and the Bashments. Be sure to tune in next week for an interview with Western Standard Time, a new big band tribute to the Skatalites!
Finally, RIP Lloyd Brevett and Adam Yauch, two men who gave so much to ska, punk, reggae, and amazing music in general.
Until next week, stay rude, and stay rebel!
